TEM - Global Deployment – HP Quality Center

Consolidating device testing tools across a major telecommunication Group

Context

A major telecommunication company is in a constant struggle to launch devices onto its networks as quickly as possible and to a high quality. As part of this launch process, the company performs similar device testing tasks independently in many operational companies across the world. The company recognised that much efficiency could be gained by consolidating this testing process.

Business Objectives & Challenges

The challenge was to introduce a common working practice across the group that would:

  • Introduce complete transparency and consistency of testing activities
  • Reduce the level of task duplication and allow economies of scale in the testing process
  • Provide the company with the information necessary to apply effective leverage to its suppliers

Approach & Solution

Altran introduced Mercury’s Quality Center product (now HP) as a consolidated tool to standardise and control a common device test process that could be used by the entire group.

  • Visibility: status and progress reporting tailored to stakeholder needs
  • Consistent, global approach:
    • supporting global processes
    • providing access for internal teams as well as for external suppliers
  • Efficiency: Introducing automation and integration with internal and external databases an tools

Results & Added Value

The implementation of this highly effective and flexible toolset introduced a number of features, including:

  • Real-Time visibility of testing activities across the Vodafone group
  • Secure, web based access for all parties across the group
  • Provision of supplier access for faster turn-around times
  • Enforcement of consistent working practises globally
  • Automated defect exchange mechanisms to supplier databases
  • Standardised reporting
