End-to-End Design, Development and Implementation of Processes and Test Set

 

 

Context

Due to TTM pressures and a successful expansion of product portfolios, a major mobile device manufacturer saw an increased need to ensure and maintain a high standard of mobile devices provided to their customers, mobile operators across the globe.

Altran was appointed to provide a ‘fresh eyes’ assessment of test and validation processes across the entire Software organisation.

Business Objectives & Challenges

The overall goal was to reduce and prevent defects found by mobile operators – to achieve tangible and intangible improvements in time to market, development cost, and branding.

A key challenge was that the device manufacturer had to ensure that internal structures, organisation and processes keep aligned to and support the significant growth in product portfolio, business volume and company size experienced over a short period of time.

Approach & Solution

Altran’s solution encompassed all stages – from business assessment to technical implementation:

  • Assessment of Software organisation’s business goals, current status, and gaps through interviews across all stakeholders, from Executives to Technical and Test Managers, complemented by desk research of key areas such as product release processes and defect management.
  • Recommendations on all aspects of test and validation, from organisational structure and process improvements to end-to-end strategy, short-, medium- and long-term measures.
  • Design and Development of a comprehensive new test set, based on test and validation performed by mobile operators.
  • Implementation of accompanying processes, tools and guidelines.

Results & Added Value

Altran’s solution provides a comprehensive test set with coverage beyond the scope of individual operators.

Altran’s recommendations resulted in and contributed to several initiatives to improve software quality at various stages.

New structures, processes and mechanisms, combined with Altran’s in-depth experience with relevant tools, allow tailored reporting covering all stakeholder requirements.

Altran’s experience in device test and validation across mobile operators enhanced and guided the change of mindset and shift towards customer focus.
