TEM - Strategy for Training Operations

Business strategy based on primary market research, cost models and alternative scenarios

Context

To support their rapid growth and success in Europe, a Far East telecoms equipment manufacturer was looking for a new strategy for their Technical Training operations throughout Europe.

Business Objectives & Challenges

The overall goal was to provide a strategy to enable turning a Cost Centre into a profitable business unit.

This significant change to existing structures and culture required assessment of the entire landscape:

  • Customer and Competitor Research
  • Strategic Direction
  • Cost Models comparing in-house vs. outsourcing options
  • Organisational Structure
  • Implementation and Roll-out Plan

Approach & Solution

As foundation for the strategy development, Altran carried out primary market research on key client competitors, and interviewed key customers to establish their expectations and requirements.

Based on this market intelligence, and considering the client’s internal capabilities and overall corporate and business strategy, Altran set out a strategic direction for the client’s European training organisation.  Altran’s recommendations covered main areas such as:

  • Organisational, operational and management structures
  • Geographic spread of training facilities
  • Structure of training curriculum and certification programmes
  • Courseware development
  • SWOT analysis on outsourcing options
  • Commercial considerations, including development of a capacity model to forecast training demand by product and region, and cost models for outsourcing scenarios and courseware development

Results & Added Value

  • With recommendations, tools and criteria developed by Altran, the client is in a position to make sound decisions on all aspects of their training organisation in Europe.
  • Altran’s recommendations gave a strategic direction that will enable the client to support customers and partners with flexible and bespoke solutions, within the short timeframes demanded by the market.
  • The strategy also ensures quality and high standards for development and delivery of technical training courses.
