Context
For the deployment of a complete NGN solution for a UK network operator, a critical milestone for customer acceptance was to prove resilience of the new solution to faults and failures at various levels.
Business Objectives & Challenges
- To meet overall network migration milestones, it was critical to provide and agree an overall concept for Network Redundancy and Resilience, and to develop and validate procedures for failure scenarios for the UMTS access and core network.
- As all parts of the fixed and mobile network were being migrated to next generation solutions, Network Resilience was dependent upon several other projects and work streams.
Approach & Solution
- Developed overall concept for UMTS Resilience, finalized recommendations to the operator, and agreed concept in a workshop
- Documented agreed UMTS Resilience scenarios and principles
- Delivered Method of Procedures (MoP):
- Produced MoP for manual UMTS Resilience scenarios
- Developed and executed test cases to validate these MoP’s
- Delivered resilience scripts:
- Produced script bundles for RNC and NodeB Migration, RNC Integration, rehoming of live NodeB’s, and 4 emergency UMTS Resiliency scenarios
- Support & Maintenance:
- Keep all documents and tools such as High Level Design and configuration templates up to date
Results & Added Value
- Documented UMTS Resilience concepts, options and recommendations, and agreed UMTS Resilience scenarios
- MoP documentation and accompanying scripts and configurations to cover agreed scenarios
- Complete handover of documentation to network vendor
- Support of Resilience Integration and Acceptance Testing activities
