TEM - Wholesale Pricing Tool (WPT)

Altran provides user friendly tool to automate processes: initial concept to design, implementation & validation

 

 

Context

The Wholesales division of a leading Mobile Network Operator identified their processes and tools, used to determine prices for their services, as significant bottleneck in serving existing and new MVNO partners. The legacy system was based on local copies of a pricing repository, inevitably leading to data inconsistency between partners, services and with own billing systems. As a result, it required significant effort and time across various parts of the organization to respond to queries from existing partners as well as determining pricing of new business.

Business Objectives & Challenges

Altran was commissioned to design, develop and deploy a centralized, online system that provides a new capability to the Wholesales division, allowing business development and account managers to easily access and generate a complete, accurate service pricing catalogue for each of their partners.

Approach & Solution

  • Requirements captured, organised and prioritised into phases according to business demands – approach and solution tailored per phase to ensure project would deliver.
  • Iterative delivery approach agreed with client in order to maximise the user experience with WPT whilst ensuring complex legacy data systems were fully understood.
  • Rapidly developed a prototype system to demo to client and ensure goals and objectives were being addressed according to their expectations.  
  • Backend end database system was designed and developed including mirroring Wholesale billing data structures for Voice, SMS and DATA (GPRS, 3G etc.) and designing new structures to enhance the user experience with WPT.
  • User experience techniques such as story boarding, scenario mapping, and focus group workshops used in designing a user friendly front end interface for the WPT.
  • Charging Manual templates, Help, Support and Maintenance processes documentation designed and created.
  • SharePoint site designed and created specifically to host WPT, support and maintenance guides and high level design documents.

Results & Added Value

The new system enables MVNO partners to base their pricing models on accurate wholesales costs, and gaining competitive advantage on retail rates and margins.

  • WPT capable of generating a full Charging Manual  (Wholesale domestic rates for Voice, SMS and DATA) in approx 2 minutes.  
  • Enabled Customer to comply with their contractual obligations to provide their partners with charging information and replace the current cumbersome means of attaining and presenting the information.
  • WPT provides a standard format across partners for Revenue Assurance and Wholesale Billing.
