Aircraft parts standardisation
Why is it important for Altran to have a Standardisation/Qualification capability?
Having a Standardisation/Qualification capability is an essential part of the Qualification process for an innovative consultancy such as Altran. The Standardisation/Qualification activity is extremely important as it allows the customer to reduce the number of lines in his Bill of Materials by rationalising the standard parts, hence reducing their cost due to larger order quantities. This activity also allows to permanently maintain the required level of qualification for old, current and new aircraft.
With this capability Altran is offering a service where we are taking full responsibility for the end to end process, from identifying the needs to creating the standard and managing the qualification/development of the product.
What kind of customer demands this type of service?
The Standardisation/Qualification service is heavily demanded by the aircraft manufacturers. This service could also be implemented to other manufacturing companies and in different areas such as automotive, medical, and nuclear, where there is a constant need to bring the cost down and improve product quality.
What are the major challenges in this role?
The Standardisation is a transnational activity that involves different departments (e.g. Design, Procurement, Installation, Materials and Processes...) so it is important to maintain a good synergy between departments all way through the process in order to obtain the right level of product maturity on time.
We also have to go beyond our technical tasks in order to identify the breakthrough technologies that will be used on future aircraft.
As an innovative consultancy it is our role to continuously help our clients to improve their products/processes and add value to their activities.
