Femtocell networks inter-operability testing

Why is it important for Altran to have 3G Femtocell testing capability?

Having a Femtocell testing capability is an important part of the testing portfolio for an innovative consultancy such as Altran. In the future this kind of small cells will be widely used by operators and customers to extend and increase the mobile broadband services and applications.

What kind of customer demands this testing service?

The integration and testing of these new networks is an essential task for mobile manufacturers, network vendors and telecom operators. To be sure that everything is perfectly integrated they need to agree and perform inter-operability testing between different radio access and core networks, and also ensure the correct behaviour with most of the existing mobile phones and the new ones that will appear in the near future. For this reason these IOT session are so important and give an idea about the behaviour of the different elements involved in the network.

What are the major challenges in this kind of role?

In the IOT sessions are involved either the customer and the 3rd parties, for instance an radio access network vendor and a mobile manufacturer so it is very important to coordinate test results and issues for get a good join test report that can be used by both as prove of testing. For this goal the NVIOT forum provides specs and steps to follow during the IOT process so Altran’s engineers must be familiar with this rules.
