Altran to sponsor IET Innovation Award for Embedded & Critical Systems

Altran in the UK has announced that it will sponsor this year’s Institute of Engineering and Technology (IET) Innovation Awards in the Embedded & Critical Systems category.

The IET Innovation Awards are open to individuals and organisations in both industry and academia, and are free to enter. Spanning 15 categories and judged by engineering experts, the awards recognise excellence and innovation in the work being carried out across all areas of engineering and technology.

The Embedded & Critical Systems Award particularly recognises the development of new and emerging technologies designed to meet a commercial need. The category covers a broad range of applications, from connected multi-media devices to critical avionics, including:

  • Connected systems: creating and improving connections between people, systems, networks and machines.
  • Intelligent systems: automating and enhancing the execution of complex and demanding tasks.
  • Green control: optimising and controlling the environmental performance of technology and systems.
  • Critical systems: enabling and assuring the safe, secure and dependable operation of systems and enterprises.

The judges will be interested in innovations in representative disciplines and competences from industry, including:

  • Systems engineering such as architecture, real-time systems, model-based technology.
  • Software engineering, covering hard real-time systems to enterprise-wide critical applications.
  • Hardware and electronics engineering including circuit design.
  • Safety engineering including techniques for assessment and governance.
  • Security engineering such as assessment, and technologies and solutions for security.

Mike Greenan, Managing Director at Altran Praxis and Chair of the Judging Panel, commented: “We’re proud to be associated with such an esteemed recognition and reward programme as the Innovation Awards in the UK. The IET does a fantastic job of advocating knowledge sharing among the global engineering and technology community, and we strongly support its vision of inclusive, collaborative scientific innovation that makes a difference to people’s lives around the world.”
