Altran is delighted to announce the award of a contract from BAE Systems, marking an agreement to design and manufacture Safety Electronics Units for the upgrade of the Spearfish Heavyweight Torpedo. The UK’s Ministry of Defence (MOD) recently awarded BAE Systems a £270 million contract to upgrade the Spearfish Heavyweight Torpedo for the Royal Navy’s submarines. The upgrade, known as Spearfish Mod 1, extends the life of the torpedo, improves safety and provides more capable data links between the weapon system and the launching vessel.
Altran’s Intelligent Systems division, specialists in embedded and safety-critical systems engineering, will design and manufacture Safety Electronics Units that will bring together all of Spearfish’s safety control into a single, embedded system.
Les Gregory, Director of Product and Training Services at BAE Systems Maritime Services, said:
We are delighted to continue our work with Altran. Working together we will provide world leading improvements in product safety to deliver the Spearfish upgrade into service with the Royal Navy
