Altran is a Corporate Partner of the IET and is proud to sponsor the 'Intelligent Systems' category of the IET Innovation Awards, which celebrate the very best innovations in science, technology and engineering.
This award recognises innovation in systems and technologies that are designed to meet a commercial need in automating and enhancing the execution of complex and demanding tasks, deriving new value from connectivity, and enabling and assuring the safe, secure and dependable operation of systems and enterprises.
The 2016 Altran-sponsored Intelligent Systems award was presented to Kromek Group Plc for their system designed to create intelligent radiation detection networks to defend against nuclear terrorism. The threat from terrorists of the detonation of a 'dirty bomb', i.e. a device using conventional explosives surrounded by nuclear material, is real. Kromek’s award-winning system can provide real time detection of threat materials which can be networked across a whole city.
John Terrington, Judge and Head of Capability at Altran UK, said: “Creating cost effective Intelligent Radiation Detection Networks using new radiation detectors to form a real time radiation map will help safeguard the public from nuclear terrorism. This practical and effective solution makes Kromek a thoroughly worthy winner of the Intelligent Systems category”.
Arnab Basu, CEO of Kromek, said: "We're delighted to have received not just one, but two awards from such a prestigious institution as the IET for our D3S solution to combat modern security threats...
This fantastic recognition from our peer group and industry experts is a reflection of the ability and commitment of our world-class team at Kromek. I’d like to thank the IET and the event sponsor, Altran, for a wonderful ceremony that celebrates the best innovations in our industry
